'You want to walk into that buzzsaw?' Trump taunted by ex-GOP official over Harris debate
July 26, 2024
During an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele laughed at the possibility that Donald Trump may be forced to debate Vice President Kamala Harris as her candidacy as his 2024 presidential opponent appears to have him on the defensive.
Speaking with fill-in host Jonathan Lemire, such a face-off was labeled as the "felon versus the prosecutor."
On Thursday, Trump seemed to reject the idea of locking in previously agreed-upon dates for one or more debates, with his campaign issuing a statement that explained, "There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party - namely Barack Hussein Obama - that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone 'better.' Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds."

With former President Barack Obama having endorsed Harris early Friday morning, the ground has now shifted and Steele laughed at the prospect of Trump being wiped out by Harris on national TV.
"I look at this race right now, and I don't see a world in which Donald Trump mans up and debates Kamala Harris," Steele exclaimed."
"The felon is not going to debate the prosecutor— that's just not going to happen," he continued. "When the question comes around about his 34 felony convictions, what do you think she's going to do? I mean, really? You want to walk into that buzzsaw in the conversation? You can throw the border all day long, but you're mincemeat on everything else. That's what you're seeing now on the campaign."
