Trump's 'entirely wrong' bid to get his hush money trial tossed is going nowhere: expert

A bid by Donald Trump and his lawyers to get his 34 felony count conviction in the Manhattan hush money trial thrown out is a longshot at best, according to former Department of Justice official Chuck Rosenberg.
Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" less than 24 hours after the conservative-leaning Supreme Court issued a stunning ruling extending the former president a wide swath of immunity, Rosenberg admitted that the court is allowing Trump to get away with criminality — but the Manhattan business fraud case is not covered.
Asked by MSNBC co-host Willie Geist about a letter sent by the former president's legal team to Judge Juan Merchan on Monday afternoon asking that the conviction be thrown out in light of the Supreme Court's ruling, Rosenberg poured cold water on it.
"On one hand, the letter to Judge Merchan was entirely predictable," Rosenberg told the panel. "On the other hand, I think it is entirely wrong."

"I mean, if you look at the Supreme Court's decision from yesterday, ... the conduct that underlined in the New York case seems to me to be purely private," he pointed out. "So perhaps Judge Merchan grants them a hearing, but I have a hard time imagining that they would prevail on it."
"This seems to me the type of case that a president ought not be immunized from," he added.
