'Not going to happen': Prosecutor sticks knife in new Trump trial verdict demand

Reacting to a court filing made public on Thursday where Donald Trump's lawyers demanded his Manhattan 34-count felony conviction be tossed out, a Florida prosecutor laughed it off and said it's a non-starter.
On Thursday, the NY Times reported that Trump lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove are using the Supreme Court's presidential immunity ruling as a reason for Judge Juan Merchan to throw out the jury's verdict and dismiss the case.
With the Times' report calling the legal maneuver a "long-shot," State Attorney for Palm Beach County Dave Aronberg told MSNBC's Katy Tur that it will go nowhere.
"Can they throw this whole thing out based on the immunity ruling?" the MSNBC host pressed.

"It's not going to happen. The judge is not going to let it happen," the prosecutor confidently answered.
"What is an official act in paying off an adult film star to help you get elected president? Right?" he asked. "But the Supreme Court did say that you cannot even go into the official acts as far as getting evidence, you can't even go into a core constitutional duty and get testimony as evidence. And [Trump aide] Hope Hicks is, or was, an aide to then-president Trump and her testimony came into the trial. So now they're saying, 'Ah-ha, you should never have admitted her testimony into the trial — case dismissed!' It doesn't work like that. If anything it's harmless error, but also his conversations with Hope Hicks were not crucial to the case."
