A whistleblower revealed a "terrifying" warning about President Donald Trump's new immigration force recruits during an interview on CNN.
Ryan Schwank, a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement trainer, told CNN's Jake Tapper on Wednesday that ICE's decision to reduce its training standards for new recruits is already having disastrous impacts. He warned that those impacts will likely get worse as new recruits are required to pass fewer training courses than their veteran peers.
He pointed to the death of Alex Pretti as an example, arguing that the officers involved in that shooting were trained under the old ICE guidelines.
"What's happening at the academyshould terrify everyone becausethe officers involved in thoseevents were trained before theacademy reduced its standards," Schwank said. "Those officers had the fulltraining that they're notgiving anymore."
"So, what my bigconcern is and what I thinkeveryone should be concernedabout, is that the new officerswho are graduating will be lesslikely to behave correctly, lesslikely to know how to applyforce, less likely to know theconstitution than the officersyou've seen in these videos," he added. "It's thenew officers who are coming out,who are adrift and cutoff from that."
