Trump impeachment lawyers admit there's 'insufficient evidence' to back up voter fraud claims

Former President Donald Trump's newly minted team of impeachment defense lawyers is admitting right off the bat that it does not have evidence to prove the president's claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

In a brief filed on Tuesday, the Trump lawyers argue that the former president didn't incite a violent mob against the United States Capitol building, but instead "exercised his First Amendment right under the Constitution to express his belief that the election results were suspect."

In the very next sentence, however, the brief declares that "insufficient evidence exists upon which a reasonable jurist could conclude that the 45th President's statements were accurate or not."

However, the lawyers argue that Trump's false claims shouldn't be seen as false just because there is not enough evidence to support them.

The brief also argues that "it is denied President Trump made any effort to subvert the certification of the results of the 2020 Presidential election," despite the fact that he explicitly called for overturning the results on his Twitter account.
