President Donald Trump downplayed escalating Middle East tensions Tuesday, claiming fighter jets headed from Israel to Iran would do just a “friendly plane wave.”
His claim came as Israel stated that Iran had violated a ceasefire put in place Monday night, and had fired an intercepted missile towards the country.
Israel vowed to retaliate, with Trump suggesting Israeli planes were in the air Tuesday morning.
"ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran," Trump raged. "All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly 'Plane Wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES."
In a later post, Trump said, "IRAN WILL NEVER REBUILD THEIR NUCLEAR FACILITIES!" referring to a bombing campaign carried out by the USA Saturday that targeted an underground space thought to be working with uranium.
Before his Truth Social rant, Trump spoke with reporters and raged at both Israel and Iran for violating the ceasefire agreement. “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don't know what the f--- they're doing. Do you understand that?” Trump angrily asserted before storming away from reporters.
