Alex Witt taken aback as Trump war creates 'domino effect of absolute misery'

MS NOW host Alex Witt was shocked on Saturday as President Donald Trump's war in Iran created a "domino effect of absolute misery" for Americans at home.

Reports indicated that Spirit Airlines canceled all its flights on Saturday as it ceased operations. The budget airline cited rising jet fuel prices stemming from Trump's war for its decision, but that didn't help the thousands of Americans stranded at airports across the country.

MS NOW reporter Laura Haefeli reported that about 277 flights were canceled on Saturday, including 34 out of Newark International Airport in New Jersey and 18 out of Laguardia Airport in New York. She spoke to one traveler who said she had spent $6,000 trying to get home.

"We're hearing stories just likethat here in Newark," Haefeli said. "And ofcourse ... peoplewho right now are in othercountries trying to get homeare going to be in serioustrouble."

Haefeli also noted that the problem with Spirit Airlines "didn't happenovernight." The company had reportedly been in talks with the Trump administration to secure a government bailout of more than $500 million, but those talks broke down over the last week or so.

"The final nail inthe coffin seems to be theseastronomical jet fuel costsbecause of the war in Iran," Haefeli said.

Witt was taken aback by Haefeli's report.

"What a domino effect of absolute misery," she said.
