White House threatens jail time as FBI probes source of Iran strike leak

President Donald Trump has attacked CNN and The New York Times for two days over a report that claimed Trump didn't "obliterate" the nuclear program in Iran as he claimed. Now the FBI is investigating how the news outlets obtained the information that the White House insists was false.

In a statement on Tuesday, press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the reports false but then said that it was from a leaked classified document.

Leavitt told Newsmax on Wednesday that the FBI is investigating the intelligence source of the report.

She then claimed that the leaker "should go to jail."

The intelligence report very narrowly addressed whether Iran could reestablish the nuclear program after the bombing. It said that Iran could be back up and running fairly quickly.

CNN reported that two people familiar with the intelligence assessment said "Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed. One of the people said the centrifuges are largely 'intact.' Another source said that the intelligence assessed enriched uranium was moved out of the sites prior to the US strikes."

When asked whether he trusts the intelligence assessment, Trump said on Wednesday that it was "very inconclusive."

"The intelligence says we don't know, it could have been very severe, that's what the intelligence says," he said. "So I guess that's correct, but I think we can take the 'we don't know.' It was very severe. It was obliteration."
