Trump isn't interested in fixing the immigration system or helping Dreamers -- he just wants his wall: WSJ

Democrats and Republicans managed to come together last year to finalize a broad immigration deal that a group of Senators have worked on for years. While President Donald Trump indicated he would support it, he ultimately backed off and refused. Since then, what Democrats are willing to supply for the president has dwindled.

"In the interview Sunday, Mr. Trump also made clear he was skeptical about any deal that trades wall money for a wider immigration overhaul," the Wall Street Journal reported about Trump's position on DACA recipiants.

“I doubt it,” Trump told the Journal when he was asked if he would agree to "citizenship for a group of immigrants illegally brought to the U.S. as children, known as Dreamers, in exchange for border-wall funding."

“That’s a separate subject to be taken up at a separate time,” Trump said.

In a previous negotiation, Trump said he would give three years of leeway to the Dreamers as part of the deal for his wall. Democrats are seeking permanent protections as well as a pathway to citizenship.
