Trump issues gibberish-filled tweet suggesting Germany may invade France again if Macron forms European army

President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a rambling, incoherent tweet about a proposal by French President Emmanuel Macron to build a European army.

"Emmanuel Macron suggests building its own army to protect Europe against the U.S., China and Russia," the president wrote. "But it was Germany in World Wars One & Two - How did that work out for France? They were starting to learn German in Paris before the U.S. came along. Pay for NATO or not!"

Even though France and Germany were adversaries in the two World Wars, the two countries have been close allies ever since Nazi Germany's defeat in 1945.

Additionally, any European army would almost certainly include both French and German troops, which would make the chance that Germany would invade its own ally very small.
