Trump Jr. 'happy' to give Senate Intel any insight into secret meeting with Russian lawyer

Donald Trump Jr. said Monday that he would be willing to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee over his meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer during the 2016 campaign.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said earlier in the day that Trump's son should appear before the committee to answer questions about his meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016.

Trump Jr. met with Veselnitskaya after she promised to deliver damaging information about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, according to the New York Times. The meeting was also attended by then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

"It was a short introductory meeting. I asked Jared and Paul to stop by," Trump Jr. told the Times. "We primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children that was active and popular with American families years ago and was since ended by the Russian government, but it was not a campaign issue at the time and there was no follow up."

Trump Jr. on Monday tried to downplay the meeting -- but admitted he agreed to meet the lawyer because she had offered damaging information about Clinton.
