Trump Jr. is considering three options for dealing with subpoena

According to a report from USA Today, associates of Donald Trump Jr. claim he has no plans to speak before the Senate Intelligence Committee, after receiving a subpoena from chair Richard Burr (R-NC), and that he is exploring his options.

In a profile on the uproar that Burr created when he called for the son of President Donald Trump to appear and face questioning from Senate investigators, the report notes that Don Jr. may defy the subpoena.

"A source familiar with the subpoena said that Trump Jr. is considering three options for dealing with the order, none of which involve going to the Hill to testify," USA Today reports.

According to the report, the president's son might be willing to face being held in contempt of Congress -- similar to a move recently made by Attorney General Bill Barr.

"One option is to ignore it entirely and let the GOP-led panel decide if they want to vote to hold him in contempt of Congress, a move the source expected would be unlikely to make it through the Republican majority in the full Senate, even if it did pass the Intelligence Committee," the report states.

The president's son is also considering invoking his "Fifth Amendment right to refuse to answer questions that lead to self-incrimination," the report continues, adding that his third option is might involve trying to negotiate a compromise where he would answer questions -- but only in written form meaning he would not have to appear in a public hearing.
