'Simply astounding' Trump delay tactics on display in court: MSNBC legal analyst

Former President Donald Trump's lawyers have used all kinds of maneuvers to delay his assorted criminal trials, and some of the Trump team's latest moves have left MSNBC legal analyst Kristy Greenberg stunned.

At issue were revelations that Trump's lawyers waited until nearly the last possible minute before requesting documents about the Stormy Daniels hush-money case from the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York that wound up further delaying the criminal trial.

In fact, as reported by Inner City Press's Matthew Russell Lee, Trump's lawyers admitted to Judge Juan Merchan on Monday that they waited until March 20th to request the documents from the SDNY.

This prompted Greenberg to comment that "Trump’s delay tactics here are simply astounding" given that this particular date was "just five days before this trial was to start."

Former federal prosecutor Harry Litman noted that Merchan slammed Trump lawyer Todd Blanche for waiting so long to seek such potentially crucial evidence for their case.

"Merchan clobbering Blanche for 1/ not subpoenaing docs earlier + 2/ now alleging misconduct by DA in not getting evidence sooner," Litman observed on Twitter. "No case support for charge, which DA denies. Merchan 'unbelievably serious' allegation so disconcerting that you make w/ no support."

Trump has repeatedly sought to delay trials for the multiple criminal charges leveled against him in the hopes that he can win the 2024 presidential election and then shut down the cases using his presidential powers.

Among other things, Trump has gotten the United States Supreme Court to take up claims that he has complete immunity from being prosecuted for any crimes that he committed while in office, which has pushed back the start date of his Washington D.C. election subversion trial by several months.
