Mary Trump says her late aunt once told her something about President Donald Trump that she’d rather not have heard.
The clinical psychologist and author made the remark in a conversation on her Substack, The Good in Us, with SiriusXM host Dean Obeidallah. Obeidallah asked whether Trump had always commented on men’s looks the way he has about Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) on the campaign trail.
“It’s interesting, because I’m his niece, and I didn’t really think about what his relationships were like,” Mary Trump said. “My aunt shared some information with me that I wish she hadn’t when I was in my 20s. She told me that he was the most sexually driven man she had ever met.”
“I’m like, ‘Thank you. Thank you, Aunt Maryanne. That’s lovely,’” she said.
Her aunt, Maryanne Trump Barry, was the president’s older sister and a retired federal appeals judge. She died in 2023.
Mary Trump said she never heard her uncle talk about men the way he does now, though she said he was always conscious of how attractive people were. One of the few kind things he would say about her father, Fred Trump Jr., was that he was handsome.
“So he was always aware of people’s levels of attractiveness, men or women, but I think it was just because he liked to associate himself with attractiveness,” she said, “because he’s not attractive, or at least I don’t think he is.”
His recent comments, she added, are “absolutely off the charts.” She called it “what we call disinhibition” and “a sign that all is not well with him cognitively speaking.”
Mary Trump is the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., the president’s older brother, who died in 1981. She has written several books critical of her uncle.
