Trump dumps on 'very foolish' GOP candidate hours after another Dem special election win
February 14, 2024
Democrat Tom Suozzi won in disgraced former Rep. George Santos' (R-NY) congressional district on Tuesday, and President Donald Trump wasted no time deflecting blame for the latest GOP special election defeat.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump openly trashed defeated Republican candidate Mazi Pilip, who lost despite centering her campaign on Trump's pet issue of combating illegal immigration.
"Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat?" Trump wrote. "I have an almost 99% Endorsement Success Rate in Primaries, and a very good number in the General Elections, as well, but just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn’t endorse me and tried to 'straddle the fence,' when she would have easily WON if she understood anything about MODERN DAY politics in America. MAGA, WHICH IS MOST OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, STAYED HOME - AND IT ALWAYS WILL, UNLESS IT IS TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THAT IT DESERVES. I STAYED OUT OF THE RACE, 'I WANT TO BE LOVED!' GIVE US A REAL CANDIDATE IN THE DISTRICT FOR NOVEMBER. SUOZZI, I KNOW HIM WELL, CAN BE EASILY BEATEN!"

In fact, Trump has regularly cost Republicans winnable races by endorsing candidates with serious electoral liabilities, such as Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania, Kari Lake in Arizona, and Herschel Walker in Georgia.
The loss in New York's 3rd Congressional District further shrinks the GOP majority in the House of Representatives and gives Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) even less room for error.
