Reports claimed President Donald Trump wanted the U.S. government to fund a military parade for his 79th birthday, though Politico cited the White House saying that report is false. The idea of a Trump military parade inspired one Army veteran to ask why her generation never got their parade after serving in a war.
In 2018, Trump wanted a grand parade but ultimately called it off because it would cost approximately $92 million. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Takis Karantonis, the chair of Virginia’s Arlington County Board, told Politico on Monday that there have been discussions with Trump administration officials about such a parade.
Bowser said the plans she's aware of call for a "military parade" that would go from the Pentagon to the White House and use heavy equipment that could likely lead to millions in damage to Washington streets.

"Military parades definitely happen on military bases very often. But I would hope that before we would do a parade for the president of the United States, you know, my generation of war veterans still hasn't had our homecoming parades, which is something that we've done for generations in the past," said Allison Jaslow, who served in Iraq, is the CEO of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
"I hope that we would celebrate those who have served and sacrificed post 9/11, many who've lost those who served alongside of them, that they would be celebrated for their sacrifice before we would do such a thing for our commander in chief," she added. "So, it is a little disappointing to see where the priorities of the current administration are in that regard."
