President Donald Trump was expected to announce that he would reverse former President Joe Biden's decision not to move Space Command from Colorado to Alabama.
Reuters reported that the Pentagon's public affairs website said Trump would make the announcement as soon as 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday. A schedule provided by the White House indicated that the president would hold an event at 2 p.m. ET but did not include any additional details.
In 2023, Biden overturned a decision to move Space Command to Alabama that Trump had made at the conclusion of his first term. Gen. James Dickinson told the Biden administration that moving Space Command headquarters would jeopardize military readiness.
Biden's decision came after Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) blocked hundreds of military promotions over a Department of Defense policy that funded travel for troops seeking reproductive health care.
Trump's Tuesday press conference sparked mass speculation online after he posted a vague message promising a big announcement. Some even considered that he might be about to announce his resignation.
