Trump is now preoccupied with painting existing sections of border fence instead of building his wall: report

President Donald Trump's focus on the southern border continues to shift -- even as he's making final preparations for his State of the Union address.

During the 2016 campaign, Trump constantly promised voters that Mexico would pay for a concrete border wall from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.

But Mexico refused to pay for his wall.

So Trump tried to build a steel-slat fence, but Congress refused to pay for his fence.

Trump then shut down the government to get a border barrier, but caved and opened the government when Congress again refused his demands.

Now, Trump is reportedly preoccupied with painting existing sections of the border fence.

CNN reports a source said that in a meeting with surrogates who will defend his State of the Union address, Trump focused on wanting to spruce up border barriers with paint.

"Trump, according to the adviser, said he doesn't like the way it looks, noting there is some graffiti on that section of the border fencing," CNN reported. "The source had said Trump didn't like the graffiti that was showing up on that section of the wall."

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in December mocked Trump's border demands for continuing to decrease.

“He says ‘we’re going to build a wall with cement and Mexico’s going to pay for it’ while he’s already backed off of the cement – now he’s down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something,” Pelosi told USA Today. “I’m not sure where he is.”
