A Democratic leader who recently was in a highly-publicized fight with President Donald Trump ridiculed him for the compromises he made on his proposed wall at the US-Mexico border -- and compared it to a 1960's home decorating staple.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the likely House Speaker come January when Democrats take over the chamber, joked that Trump's border wall has been reduced from a cement barrier to a "beaded curtain," USA Today reported.
"He says ‘we're going to build a wall with cement and Mexico's going to pay for it’ while he's already backed off of the cement – now he's down to, I think, a beaded curtain or something," Pelosi told USA Today. "I'm not sure where he is."
The leading Democrat made the comments on the fourth day of the government shutdown Trump initiated over the wall -- and many on Twitter found the remarks hilarious.
"That loser couldn’t even get Mexico to pay for a beaded curtain," journalist Joshua Holland wrote, "and you can get ‘em cheap down there."

After Vox's Aaron Rupar noted that Trump seemed to make up his claim that yesterday he "gave out 115 miles worth of wall" in spite of receiving no money for the wall, another Twitter user noted that "Nancy was right about the beaded curtain."
@atrupar So now he only wants 550 miles of wall? Because the rest of the border is impenetrable? Nancy was right about the beaded curtain.— Helen Kennedy (@Helen Kennedy) 1545759482.0
