'This could be the end of the Trump Organization': Legal expert shows what's at stake

The Trump Organization may be toast.

Former impeachment lawyer and ex-prosecutor Norm Eisen on CNN's "The Situation Room" weighed in on the stakes that former President Trump and his real estate empire are facing in the hands of Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron as closing arguments culminated on Thursday.

"...this could be the end of the Trump Organization as we have known it for all these years," he said.

Eisen pointed to the fact that the $370 million civil lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James witnessed a dramatic trial that had been drawn out for months.

Trump and his business along with his grown sons Don Jr. and Eric and some executives, were already found by the judge in late September to have committed widespread fraud for years to secure favorable loans and deals.

That ruling essentially stripped control of the company from Trump and threatened to dissolve some of the businesses and controls.

It has since been pending an appeal.

Engoron, who is ruling over the case, has set Jan. 31 to be ready to deliver a verdict.

But Eisen believes that the cards are very much stacked against Trump and that the judge has been mindful of a predictable appeal should the decision go against him.

"When all of these trial and appellate proceedings are concluded — it may no longer be called the Trump Organization," he said. "It's not just the massive over $300 million in financial penalties for the wrongdoing that the Attorney General is seeking, but there is injunctive relief."

Eisen explained that the hands of Trump and his sons are already hampered by the ruling that sets stringent restrictions.

"This judge has already ordered some of the remedies that can be referred to as a 'corporate death penalty,'" he added. "Trump and his sons not allowed to participate in the business, not allowed to do other business, to take loans for a period of time, perhaps putting a receiver in charge."

"If all of that comes to pass and if it holds up on appeal — and I think the judge has been careful...this could be the end of the Trump Organization as we have known it for all these years."
