Many residents of Palm Beach, Florida are already fed up with having former President Donald Trump living at his Mar-a-Lago resort, and this week they cited their fears of Trump supporters invading their city as reason to oust him.
The Washington Post reports that opponents of Trump's residency at Mar-a-Lago told a town council this week that they worried about their city becoming a mecca for MAGA fanatics who would camp out like Deadheads hoping to get a glimpse of their idol.
Philip Johnston, an attorney representing the group Preserve Palm Beach, Inc., told the council that Palm Beach could become a "permanent beacon for his more rabid, lawless supporters" if the former president is allowed to reside at his resort.
Fellow Trump opponent Glenn Zeitz, meanwhile, told the council that he worried that the city would "set a bad precedent" by making special arrangements for Trump to live at Mar-a-Lago.
A Trump attorney present at the meeting, however, insisted that the former president is an employee of the club who performs many crucial tasks such as welcoming and greeting guests when they enter the club.
