Former Donald Trump attorney Tim Parlatore's confessional on CNN over the weekend detailing infighting amongst the former president's legal team may have not only been in violation of attorney/client privilege, but also a leg up for prosecutors investigating his former client.
That is the opinion of CNN legal analyst Shan Wu, who admitted he was surprised at how candid Parlatorre was under questioning by CNN's Paula Reid.
Speaking with host John King, Wu, a defense attorney, explained that conversations between members of the same legal team are as protected as those with clients and that the outgoing Parlatore may have said too much on national TV.
"Infighting in a Trump team is not unusual but in ongoing investigations -- in a moment we'll show that there are several -- but just in this one, Mr. Parlatore was important in the [Mar-a-Lago] classified documents investigation and was called before the grand jury," host King prompted. "To be talking publicly and criticizing your fellow team members, that is rare, is it not?"
"Yeah, it's an extraordinary interview I would say," attorney Wu laughed, "and there's some concerns ethically. There are rules that say you cannot reveal client confidences and certainly infighting within the legal team about what's happening is part of the client confidences and it could be detrimental to the client Trump."
"I really found it amazing that he was actually explaining his view of what [Trump attorney] Evan Corcoran should have done in that writing because implicit in that is all sorts of criticisms of the writing itself, which again is potentially detrimental to the client Trump," he elaborated.
"So a very unusual situation to see that sort of disagreement spill over. It's not unusual to have disagreements among a team, but you've got to keep it quiet," he added.
