President Donald Trump posted incomplete rankings of the greatest U.S. presidents, and the list is spurring online mockery, especially its omissions.
In a Thursday Truth Social post, Trump posted a graphic that showed presidential portraits put into different tiers like "great," "average," and "failures." The list only had 33 out of the 45 men who have served in the office, and Trump was at the top as "THE GREATEST."
Veteran political commentator Jonah Goldberg, who's also the editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, wrote, "This is so sad and pathetic," while others were confused by the placement of certain presidents and the omission of Ronald Reagan, among others.
"What do conservatives have to say about Trump saying FDR is great but not listing Ronald Reagan?" wondered Eric Michael Garcia, the Washington, D.C., Bureau Chief for The Independent.
"Obviously he'd do this, but I wonder why he puts Grant in his lowest 'failures' category with Obama and Biden?" pondered ex-diplomat and former congressman Tom Malinowski. "Something about how Grant won the Civil War and then put down the KKK?"
"Woodrow Wilson up top? Coolidge towards the bottom? And no Reagan?" puzzled conservative broadcaster Erick Erickson. "Can someone unplug the President, shake him, and plug him back in?"
"The irony, of course, is that Trump will be ranked by political science and history at the bottom with Nixon, bc of his anti-constitutionalism," wrote political science professor Robert E. Kelly. "January 6 sealed Trump's fate in the rankings years ago."
"Imagine, just imagine, if any other president - Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Obama, Biden - had posted something like this about themselves," demanded British-American journalist and TV host Mehdi Hasan. "They would be a laughing stock. There'd be no other story in the media. Their own party members would be slamming them."
Conspiracy theory expert Mike Rothschild pointed out that Trump's graphic resembled a Harvard historians' ranking published in a 1948 issue of Life Magazine, but "with his name added at the top and Democrats he doesn't like at the bottom."
"I want to live in a country filled with people who immediately recognize how sad and pathetic this is, and reject Trump for being such a needy little weirdo," blasted GOP pollster Sarah Longwell.
