President Donald Trump says he wants UFC CEO Dana White to be his press secretary, and he wants a lineup of mixed martial arts fighters to back him up.
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday afternoon.
“I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris,” Trump continued. He appeared to mean former two-time Olympic judo champion Kayla Harrison.
“We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left,” Trump wrote. “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
The post included an image of White behind the White House briefing room podium, along with photos of the six fighters.
It’s unclear whether the offer is serious. White, a longtime Trump friend and supporter, is not a fighter himself. He has run the UFC for more than two decades and has spoken at Trump’s Republican National Convention appearances.
Makhachev and Nurmagomedov are from Dagestan, Russia, and Nunes is Brazilian. Trump nodded to that when he wrote that “some are not from our Country.”
The post comes as Trump reshapes his team after Republicans lost both chambers of Congress on Tuesday. Stephen Miller takes over as White House chief of staff on Monday.
