The organization that represents more than 14,000 active and former FBI special agents called possible plans by the Trump administration to dramatically increase its purge of law enforcement agents “outrageous” — and will put the nation at risk.
Pushback from the FBI Agents Association came Friday amid reports that President Donald Trump and his new administration forced out “all six of the FBI’s most senior executives and multiple heads of various FBI field offices across the country,” according to NBC News.
Included as part of the mass removals was the high-profile leader of the Washington, D.C. field office, which was involved in Trump’s prosecutions, the network added.
The reports stirred anger with the FBI Agents Association, which said, “these outrageous actions by acting officials are fundamentally at odds with the law enforcement objectives outlined by President Trump,” according to The New York Times.
“Dismissing potentially hundreds of agents would severely weaken the bureau’s ability to protect the country from national security and criminal threats,” the organization added.

In comments in the Oval Office earlier in the day, Trump told reporters he was not personally involved in firings but added that it was "a good thing."
"They were very bad. They were very corrupt people, very corrupt, and they hurt our country very badly with the weaponization," he said, as reported by NBC News.
The purge that began Friday is part of a plan to thoroughly examine scores of FBI agents who played any role in investigating Trump-related cases, the Times reported.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) was also angered by the reports.
“They are hollowing out our professional law enforcement community,” Blumenthal told the Times for its Friday report. “It is the absolute height of arrogance to be doing exactly what their FBI nominee promised not to do — literally the day after he made the promise. It’s surreal and sickening and should be disregarded as disqualifying for this nominee.”
It’s not the first time the FBI Agents Association has come out to condemn a Trump administration action. Just last week the organization said it did not believe it was “appropriate” for Trump to issue blanket pardons to Jan. 6 rioters.
