Trump put razor wire on border fence — Arizona town just voted unanimously to tear it down

Opposition to President Donald Trump's border fortification continues to grow.

Trump pledged to build a cement wall during the 2016 campaign, but Mexico refused to fund the expensive project as he had pledged. He then sought money from Congress, but Capitol Hill refused to fund either a concrete wall or steel-slat border fence.

Trump, however, has defiantly continued to push for fortifications and has sent 3,700 troops to the border to increase fortifications.

Nogales, Arizona was outraged after troops installed razor wire, also known as concertina wire, along the existing border wall in their community.

"Mayor Arturo Garino, we just spoke to him a moment ago, and he says the concertina wire that's up now along the border fence is the type of wire that you'd see in a battlefield setting or a war zone or in a prison, KVOA's Eric Fink reported. "He say's it's not the type of setting he wants to see in a city like downtown Nogales."

"Now, just a few days ago, the Trump administration sent more than 3,700 troops to border towns across the southwest to help put up razor wire and help fortify these border towns," he continued.

Mayor Garino worried about the perception it gives his town. Fink interviewed a couple visiting from Michigan "who were both alarmed by what they saw."

"I don't believe it's necessary on this side of the wall and to have razor wire -- they already have a big wall, why do they need something more?" the husband wondered.

Town leaders agreed with those concerns.

"The Nogales City Council unanimously approves Mayor Garino’s resolution to tell the federal government to take down the razor wire," Fink reported.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said their was a request for the razor wire for “high-risk urban areas commonly exploited by criminal smuggling organizations.”

CBP would not tell the Associated Press who requested the razor wire.
