Never one to back down from a squabble, GOP presidential front-runner slapped back at attacks by former presidential nominee Mitt Romney at a Salt Lake City rally Friday night, asking his Utah fans: "Are you sure he's a Mormon?"
Earlier in the month, Romney called Trump a "phony" and a "fraud and said, “Let me put it plainly -- if we Republicans choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished."
On Friday, Romney reluctantly endorsed Trump rival, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, which was not something Trump was going to let pass.
According to Politico, Trump stood before his Friday night rally in the heart the Church of Latter Day Saints territory and trashed Romney.
“I have many friends that live in Salt Lake. I have a lot of friends, I have a lot of friends. By the way, Mitt Romney is not one of them,” Trump bellowed. “Did he choke? Did this guy choke? He’s a choke artist, I can’t believe. Are you sure he’s a Mormon? Are we sure?”
“They’re amazing people and it’s an honor to be with you tonight, those of you that are Mormons,” Trump added."An honor. I love you."
