While media reports were going around about Donald Trump ousting his national security adviser, there was reportedly "behind-the-scenes" confusion about who would take over the role.
CNN White House reporter Alayna Treene said on Saturday that she was told by people inside the White House that "they did not know the President was going to name" Marco Rubio to hold the spot temporarily.

"The question now is, how is this all going to work?" she asked.
Citing sources close to the Trump administration, she noted that the White House is still "scrambling" to figure out how Rubio will hold his current Cabinet-level role along with his new interim position that was once held by Mike Waltz.
"I mean, all of these things, the White House is kind of scrambling to consider. And one thing, though, Jessica is very much clear, is that they do believe that this role is going to be temporary," the reporter added.
