'Good god': Critics terrified Trump took US 'deeper into chaos' with latest rant

President Donald Trump poked the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former president, Dimitry Medvedev, in a Truth Social post Monday — and it left many fearful that Trump is growing trigger-happy.

Medvedev began the exchange, suggesting that other countries would transfer nuclear weapons to Iran in support of their fight with the U.S.

Trump hit back, writing on Truth Social, "Did he really say that or, is it just a figment of my imagination? If he did say that, and, if confirmed, please let me know, IMMEDIATELY. The 'N word' should not be treated so casually. I guess that’s why Putin’s 'THE BOSS!'"

Huffington Post and New York Magazine writer Yashar Ali said in a comment on Trump's response that it's an "absolutely absurd notion that will not happen."

"President Trump is pi--ed at Russian former President Medvedev. What happened? Medvedev posted that Russia will give nuke technology to Iran. He did it as a test by order of Putin. And so Trump responded," wrote Tymofiy Mylovanov, president of the Kyiv School of Economics and former economy minister for Ukraine.

"Going after the Kremlin drunk now. Medvedev once suggested Armageddon would commence if Ukraine hit Crimea. It hit Saky airbase, took out half the Black Sea Fleet’s naval aviation group in an hour, Russia denied it was attacked and called it a “smoking” accident—and Medvedev deleted his Telegram post," wrote The Insider's editor, Michael Weiss on X.

Estonian scholar Ott Heinapuu noted, "It was a mistake to let *both* Trump and Medvedev online in the same decade. Parental control software exists for a reason."

"The Great Man of Peace speaks. God help us—this warmongering fool is only going to take us deeper and deeper into chaos," said journalist and Elon Musk biographer Seth Abramson.

Author Nathan Goldwag responded to Trump's post, saying, "Not really the point but yeah, I think that was probably a figment of your imagination Mr. President sir. That doesn't sound like something the Russian Federation would do."

The Russian news site Meduza reported on the exchange, noting on Bluesky, "Donald Trump and Dmitry Medvedev are duking it out on social media today as only these two know how: apocalyptic threats and charged language."

"WMD = Watch my Dumbness. Krasnov "Trump" is descending to Medvedev-level bragging. Likely fueled more by dementia than vodka," said Finnish writer and researcher Mikko Laaksonen.

Others criticized Trump for claiming the "N Word" was "nuclear."
