Trump says bogus 'Spygate' is about 'total transparency' -- after Dems are banned from intelligence briefing

President Donald Trump on Wednesday insisted that his call for an investigation into his allegations that a "spy" infiltrated the Trump campaign was about providing "total transparency" to the American people -- even though Republicans have excluded Democratic lawmakers from an intelligence briefing on the subject.

Trump spoke about what he has dubbed "Spygate" at the White House on Wednesday.

"What I want is total transparency," the president insisted.

He reportedly went on to assert that Democrats agreed with him on the subject.

In a statement on Wednesday House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) called on Republicans to allow Democratic lawmakers to attend a briefing about the use of confidential informants in the Russia investigation. One confidential informant reportedly provided information about the Trump campaign, but there is no evidence that the FBI "spied" on the campaign.
