Trump says executing drug dealers could help solve the opioid crisis during rant at White House summit

President Donald Trump on Thursday noted that some countries have harsh penalties for dealing illegal drugs during remarks he made at a White House summit on the opioid crisis.

He suggested that punishing drug dealers with the death penalty reduced crime.

"These people can kill 2,000, 3,000 people, and nothing happens to them," Trump complained.

"Some countries have a very, very tough penalty -- the ultimate penalty. And by the way, they have much less of a drug problem than we do," he said.
