Trump senate loyalist rails against right-wing CPAC after they dump his conservative rating

Republican John Cornyn has won three U.S. Senate elections in Texas -- and has also won statewide races for Attorney General and state Supreme Court.

But ahead of his 2020 reelection effort, his campaign manager is apparently worried enough about reelection to lash out at the American Conservative Union.

The lobbying group, which hosts the annual CPAC conference, is led by Matt Schlapp -- husband of Mercedes Schlapp, the White House director of strategic communications.

"New ratings from an influential conservative group put Texan John Cornyn behind 35 other senators — a middling score as he seeks to fire up grass-roots activists ahead of his push for re-election," The Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday. "The scorecard, issued Tuesday by the American Conservative Union, also put Cornyn far below his fellow Texas senator, Ted Cruz."

In response, Cornyn's campaign manager, John Jackson, lashed out at the American Conservative Union as "the Swamp."
