Trump smears anti-Kavanaugh protesters as 'rude elevator screamers' who are 'paid by Soros' in unhinged Twitter rant

President Donald Trump on Friday unleashed a conspiratorial tirade against people who have been protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

"The very rude elevator screamers are paid professionals only looking to make Senators look bad," the president wrote. "Don’t fall for it! Also, look at all of the professionally made identical signs. Paid for by Soros and others. These are not signs made in the basement from love!"

Thousands of protesters took to Capitol Hill this week to protest Kavanaugh, and many of them have directly confronted Republican lawmakers including Sens. Orin Hatch (R-UT), Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

One week ago, Flake was confronted by two women while he was standing in an elevator who accused him of ignoring sexual assault survivors with his decision to back Kavanaugh's confirmation. Shortly after, Flake called for a delay in the vote on the Supreme Court nominee to give the FBI time to conduct a background investigation on accuser Christine Blasey Ford's claims.
