GOP lawmaker expects 'steady' Trump to assure fans 'it's okay' in felony conviction speech

A Republican lawmaker predicted Donald Trump would offer a "steady hand" to his supporters during a news conference following his conviction.

The former president was convicted Thursday on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up his hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, and he will deliver remarks to the media outside Trump Tower, where Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) expects he will offer assurance to his followers.

"We're going to hear a steady hand," Hunt told Fox Business host Stuart Varney. "We're going to hear the voice of a father and a grandfather. We're going to hear a voice of the future president telling us it's okay."

Trump has regularly raged against the criminal proceedings against him in off-the-cuff remarks outside the courtroom where he stood trial, blasting the judge and prosecutors as politically motivated and making false claims about the trial.

He's expected to speak Friday after 11 a.m. at his New York City residence.
