'His heart's not really in it': Internet pans Trump's 'boring' Bedminster speech
August 15, 2024
Donald Trump's speech on Thursday tried to link Vice President Kamala Harris to the U.S. economy under President Joe Biden, but internet observers seemed to agree — the speech was a bit of a bore.
The speech in Bedminster, New Jersey, came a day after Trump went on largely off-script tangents, as he attacked Biden and Harris.
A less-animated Trump on Thursday began his speech by looking down at the words and focusing on reading facts and figures. Some saw it as a "monotone" display, "boring," and an outright "Snorefest." However, the criticismmost heard from everyday viewers, was just how "boring" it was.
"This presser is so far an obvious redo attempt on his NC 'economy' speech, but you can tell his heart's not really in it. No crowd to stoke, though, so he sticks with it," wrote Washington Post analyst Philip Bump.
"Snore #TrumpPressConference," wrote national security attorney Bradley Moss.
Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko called Trump "Sleepy Don."
"Trump looks and sounds so silly from Bedminster, NJ. So far, just the usual baloney. Off to a very boring start," said Stuart Rothenberg of Inside Elections.

Some viewed it as a ruse to get Fox News and CNN to carry the event. Journalist Aaron Rupar pointed out at the 20-minute mark that they were "tricked" into "free airtime." Fox Business, he pointed out, still tried to claim it was an economy speech, despite Trump ranting about MS-13 gangs.
British culture writer Louis Staples explained, "One of the key drivers of Trump’s decline is simply… he’s an entertainer who is no longer entertaining! His tweets used to be evil in an iconic way, his rallies and pressers used to be box office! filled with, like, 10 quotes that were instantly canon. Now he’s boring and cringe."
