Trump supporter charged with making death threats to Maxine Waters after hearing her insult the president

Anthony Scott Lloyd was listening to a report on a talk radio show on October 22 about Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) insulting President Donald Trump when he became enraged and called her Washington, D.C. office with death threats.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a 44-year-old from San Pedro, California identified himself as a "pro-president supporter" and used both racial and homophobic slurs in the voicemail.

"If you continue to make threats toward the president, you’re going to wind up dead, Maxine, ’cause we’ll kill you," Lloyd said. He later told investigators he had no intention of actually harming the congresswoman.

Though the Times' report did not identify what story Lloyd heard on the radio, conservative outlets exploded with criticism for Waters after she made comments about wanting to "take out" Trump on October 22, which she later clarified were about impeachment rather than assassination.

Lloyd was arrested on November 9 and is out on a $20,000 bail. He could face up to 10 years in federal prison for threatening a member of Congress.
