Trump supporter Tom Brady slams 'divisive' attack on protesting NFL players

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, one of President Donald Trump's most notable supporters in professional sports, slammed the president for being "divisive" by attacking NFL players for protesting peacefully against police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem.

"I certainly disagree with what he said," said Brady during his weekly appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI. "I thought it was divisive."

While Brady did not take a knee himself this past Sunday, he did lock arms with several of his teammates as a show of solidarity in the wake of Trump's attacks on Friday night, where he called protesting NFL players "sons of b*tches."

Brady said on Monday he isn't taking any particular side in the protest movement to kneel during the national anthem, but he just wants to promote mutual respect between teammates.

" I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust," he said. "Those are the values that my parents instilled in me. That is how I try and live every day. I have been blessed to be in locker rooms with guys all over the United States over the course of my career. Some of my great friends are from Florida, Virginia, New York, Montana, Colorado, Texas. The one thing about football is it brings so many guys together — guys you would never have the opportunity to be around."
