Trump to drop proposed Obama-era rule requiring companies to report employee pay by gender and race: WSJ

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Trump White House is abandoning a proposed Obama-era rule that would have compelled businesses to collect data about how much they pay workers based upon gender, race and ethnic groups.

According to the report, the administration claimed the reporting requirement would be a burden on businesses.

“It’s enormously burdensome,” Neomi Rao, administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, explained. “We don’t believe it would actually help us gather information about wage and employment discrimination.”

The now-suspended Obama rule would have required employers with 100 or more employees to provide the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission with data on wages in an effort to police discrimination.

In a statement issued by Ivanka Trump, who is serving as an unpaid adviser to her father, the first daughter claimed the “policy would not yield the intended results.”
