Trump walks out of E. Jean Carroll defamation trial
January 26, 2024
Former President Donald Trump walked out of court Friday just minutes after proceedings started in what's expected to be the final day of the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial.
"The record will reflect that Mr. Trump just rose and walked out of the courtroom," Judge Lewis Kaplan said as Trump left the building, according to The Messenger's Adam Klasfeld, who is in the courtroom.
Lawyers for Trump and Carroll are expected to give closing arguments today before the jury starts deliberations in the trial. Trump has already been found liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll at an earlier trial. The ongoing hearing involves separate defamatory comments made about the same incident.
The judge has already found him liable for defamation, with the trial being mainly about deciding damages. Carroll has asked for $10 million.
Trump, who took the stand for just three minutes Thursday, arrived late to the trial Friday before walking out.
