Trump ridiculed for bragging about 'known neutral arbiter' New York Post editorial

Former President Donald Trump bragged that the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post supported him in an editorial on Monday as he entered the courtroom.

Monday marks the fourth day that his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, was on the stand answering questions. Trump stands accused of coordinating with Cohen on a hush-money deal to cover up an alleged affair. He is charged with illegally crafting false business documents around it to conceal the payoff.

The New York Post called the trial a "witch hunt," and Trump continues to brag that every lawyer on the planet supports him.

“Everybody — Alan Dershowitz — everybody says there’s no crime here,” Donald Trump said ahead of the Manhattan criminal trial on Thursday. “There’s no crime. Jonathan Turley, every single person, Gregg Jarrett, Andy McCarthy, anyone you want to name, Mark Levin, great lawyer, all of them. Great lawyers, great legal scholars, every single one said there’s no crime. The crime is that they’re doing this case.”

As MSNBC pointed out, his "every lawyer" is actually only the Fox legal contributors. Some of those lawyers joined him in court Monday along with Republican lawmakers.

One of those, Dershowitz, was specifically quoted by Trump as he explained, "He says right here. To the best of my knowledge, I do not recall seeing Donald Trump on Epstein's private island."

A "touching note ... before court this morning to bolster his defense," remarked one observer.

Trump went on to complain that his ardent supporters weren't protesting around the courthouse. While political leaders have been willing to visit, MAGA fans aren't. Still, Trump told reporters outside the courtroom that he thought this case would help him win New York.

Mary Manno Sweeney was among those who couldn't help but laugh at Trump's claim that the New York Post editorial board was behind him.

"They have less credibility than Trump. [fallen from my lounge chair on the veranda, laughing hysterically]," she posted on X.

Others couldn't help but remember that it was the same New York Post that featured a front page with Trump's third wife nude with another woman in what it called a "sizzling" photo shoot.

A Twitter user named Johnny sarcastically responded to Trump's. comments saying, "Known neutral arbiter the New York Post editorial board…"

One X user which goes by RBH commented, "When someone keeps saying things like this out loud, you no [sic] they are scared. They know they’re in trouble so they have to keep saying I’m innocent to keep the cult fired up."

Matthew Thomas couldn't help but question one specific line from Trump's pre-court press conference in which he said, “It’s been determined by everyone.” Thomas remarked, "Except the jury."

X user Chidi agreed with the sentiment, noting, "Wait till he finds out that only the jury will determine the case."

Trump's lawyers think they'll be ready for closing statements on Tuesday, giving the jury the rest of the week to deliberate before the Memorial Day holiday.

Trump continues to maintain his innocence.
