Trump urges Republicans to investigate DOJ 'bias' in post-Mueller 'victory lap': report

An elated President Donald Trump reportedly has a "new lease on life" in the wake of special counsel Robert Mueller's report — and is urging one GOP senator to push for investigations into bias at the Justice Department.

Politico reported Tuesday that during a private luncheon with Republican senators, the president couldn't contain his joy over his belief that he was exonerated by the Mueller report.

"I’ve got this behind me now," Trump said, per Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). "It’s a fresh start. So let’s see what we can do: starting with healthcare.."

In an interview with the Washington Post, Graham described Trump as acting like he has "a new lease on life" and said the president described the Mueller report as giving him "a clean bill of health."

The Mueller report, which was submitted to the attorney general on Friday and summarized briefly over the weekend, reportedly does not contain evidence of collusion between Trump and Moscow. AG Barr noted, however, that it does "does not exonerate" the president on obstruction of justice.

Nevertheless, Trump is, according to Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA), "doing a victory lap."

The president was unusually magnanimous, GOP senators told Politico, and did not bring up Republicans who voted to condemn his national emergency declaration over his border wall.

He also, Politico noted, "endorsed a probe by Graham into whether there was an anti-Trump effort in the Justice Department in 2016" and complained about how little had been done to investigate the alleged bias.
