'Brainwashed' Trump VP hopefuls look like they're in 'hostage videos': CNN's S.E. Cupp

CNN analyst S.E. Cupp on Monday ridiculed Republicans who are going to what she says are ridiculous lengths to flatter former President Donald Trump's ego in the hopes he will pick them to be his vice-presidential nominee.

After playing a clip of Tim Scott's refusal to commit to accepting the results of the 2024 presidential election, Cupp argued that this is the price any Republican with vice-presidential aspirations will have to pay.

"Bless her heart, Kristen Welker asked him several more times to answer a very easy question," she said. "And he can't because these are like hostage videos. And if you... are preening and posturing to be the vice presidential pick, this is how crazy you have to look. This is how brainwashed you have to sound!"

She said that media appearances like this weren't unique to Tim Scott, as she has also seen North Dakota Gov. Burgum "talk about Donald Trump in ways that seem very bizarre and cultish."

What these performances are trying to do, she continued was to demonstrate that these candidates had "loyalty" to Trump "above all else."

"Loyalty above principle, above politics, above, policy, will be your biggest calling card," she said.

Loyalty in a vice president has been especially important for Trump given that his previous vice president, Mike Pence, refused to go along with an unconstitutional scheme to throw out certified election results in a bid to illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election.

After Pence refused to do this, Trump supporters would violently storm the Capitol and chant for Pence's hanging, while also sending lawmakers running for their lives.
