Two longtime Washington, DC insiders could not contain their amazement that President Donald Trump is viewed favorably in only three states in the union.
On MS NOW’s “Morning Joe," co-host Joe Scarborough, a former GOP lawmaker, and Democratic strategist Jennifer Palmieri both called new polling from YouGov “staggering” when it came to the president’s collapse, particularly when it comes to red states.
As USA Today reported, “According to The Economist and YouGov, more people disapprove than approve of Trump’s job performance in 47 out of 50 states and in the District of Columbia. The three states where the majority of respondents still approve of the president are Wyoming (+14), Idaho (+9), and West Virginia (+6).”
Discussing the particulars, Palmieri pointed out to the panel that Trump’s drop is dragging Republicans down and Democratic candidates up.
“You see this really, I mean, those numbers are staggering in these Senate races, right?” she stated. “That's why you see, [Texas Democrat James] Talarico, you know, one of the reasons why you see Talarico doing so well in Texas, [Dem Senator Jon] Ossoff so far ahead in Georgia.”
Scarborough, who represented Florida in the House as a Republican, piled on with, “What I don't get is you look at those numbers in the deep south, -31 in Georgia, -25 in North Carolina. That's, just for a guy from the deep south, that's staggering to me that he's that low, even -22 in Texas. I didn't think I would ever see that.”
“And yet the president seems so oddly disinterested,” he added. “He's, as you said, a couple of weeks ago, he's focused on construction projects and vengeance. He never got out and campaigned for the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ as Republicans called it. He doesn't talk about affordability without mocking and ridiculing it. The thing that I mean right now, my big question is: why is he so disengaged from the fact there's an election coming up?”
