Trump vows that The New York Times ‘will be gone’ in six years

President Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out at The New York Times for their Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of his administration.

"The New York Times sanctuary cities/immigration story today was knowingly wrong on almost every fact," Trump argued.

"They never call to check for truth," he claimed.

"Their sources often don’t even exist, a fraud. They will lie and cheat anyway possible to make me look bad. In six years they will be gone," he said.

"When I won the election in 2016, [The New York Times] had to beg their fleeing subscribers for forgiveness in that they covered the election (and me) so badly. They didn’t have a clue, it was pathetic. They even apologized to me. But now they are even worse, really corrupt reporting," he added.

Trump's claims were immediately called into question by New York Times White House reporter Maggie Haberman.

"[The president] really ought to check in with his press team more often, or they with him. NYT emailed three times for comment and press office acknowledged receipt of emails," Haberman noted.

Conservative pollster Frank Luntz notedThe New York Times "added 132,000 new subscribers the week after Trump's victory in 2016."
