'He wants the gag order': Analyst explains Trump's surprising motive in fraud case

Donald Trump has been fighting multiple gag orders, but the former president actually wants them to remain in place and will do everything in his power to make sure that's the case, a political analyst said on Saturday.

Florida pollster and political analyst Fernand Amandi appeared on MSNBC's American Voices with Alicia Menendez, where he was asked about the "direct line" drawn from Trump's comments "to the way his supporters and fans come out to harass public people." Specifically, the host asked Amandi about Trump's claim that the New York gag order could actually harm his presidential bid.

"He is right, it will harm his bid," Amandi said. "He won't be able to spew 2AM and 6AM and 24/7 unhinged tweets, the way he does."

He continued:

"The difference here is I think Trump is looking to get the gag order. He wants the gag order. Anything to continue the grievance campaign that he can tell his base that the deep state, or in this case, the courts, are going after him."

He concluded:

"And, to unleash MAGA supporters to then say, in spite of the gag order, what he would otherwise think. So, I think we need to look at Trump acting here, cynically, in bad faith, to get that gag order. I think it will come on Monday."
