Trump wants Sessions to investigate who wrote infamous NYT op-ed -- and suggests he may sue the paper

President Donald Trump on Friday told reporters that he wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to launch an investigation into the anonymous administration official who wrote a scathing New York Times editorial attacking him this week, reports Reuters' Jeff Mason.

In addition to asking Sessions to investigate the author of the editorial, the president also left open the possibility that he could sue the New York Times to uncover the author's identity.

"We're going to see," the president said. "I'm looking at that right now."

The editorial, which was published on Wednesday afternoon, an unnamed Trump official described themselves as a member of “The Resistance,” despite the fact that they are working inside Trump’s White House.

The official said that they — and many other members inside the Trump White House — see it as their job “to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclination," before going on to document the reasons that they have to stop Trump from behaving in ways that damage the United States.

“The root of the problem is the president’s amorality,” they wrote. “Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.”
