Trump 'looks weak' because Republicans are 'starting to peel a apart from him': NYT editor
Building upon a column from The Atlantic‘s Jonathan Lemire, who suggested the president is “suddenly looking a lot smaller” as his polling numbers collapse, the New York Times’ Mara Gay claimed the president now finds himself stuck in a political quagmire with no idea how to get out of it.
During a segment on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,“ Gay made the case that Trump looks “weak” because he has not been able to fulfill his campaign promises despite the Republican Party controlling both the House and the Senate.
Compounding his problems, there has been a wave of GOP lawmakers who are creating more and more distance between themselves and the president.
Speaking with Lemire, she explained, “He still can't really deliver what he's promised, which is getting America out of those wars and then really delivering for working people. Instead, It's the opposite, people are suffering.”
“Of course, because he's given tax cuts to billionaires, something that the American people have noticed, by the way, as they are suffering,” she added. “This is a political quagmire for him, and I think that's why you see him looking for distractions. I think the ballroom is a great example of distraction, and, you know, right now he looks weak and you can see that he's weak because Republicans are starting to peel apart from him, and we have not seen that before.”
