Trump to attend World Series after calling for supporters to 'boycott baseball'

Former president Donald Trump plans to attend Game 4 of the World Series in Atlanta on Saturday.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Wednesday that Trump's visit will "potentially bring his ongoing feud with Major League Baseball to Truist Park in the midst of the (Braves') first appearance in the championship round in decades."

"The visit is certain to highlight the ongoing rift between the former president and America's pastime, a split that deepened after Georgia's Republican-led Legislature rewrote the state's election laws," the newspaper reported. "Trump called on his supporters to 'boycott baseball' in April after the league yanked the All-Star game from the suburban ballpark in protest of the new law. Also set to be in attendance at the game is Rob Manfred, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, who made the decision to pull out of the game."

Braves chief executive Terry McGuirk told USA Today that Trump called the league to request tickets to attend Saturday's game against the Houston Astros.

"We were very surprised. Of course, we said yes," McGuirk said, adding that he was not concerned about Trump's polarizing presence.

"We are apolitical,'' McGuirk said. "We're open to anyone coming. It's great that he wants to come to our game.''

In addition to his ongoing feud with the MLB, Trump has repeatedly attacked Georgia GOP Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for refusing to overturn President Joe Biden's victory in the Peach State in 2020. Trump's efforts go get Georgia officials to overturn the election results are the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by the district attorney in Fulton County.
