Trump’s post-SOTU bounce will 'wane almost immediately' after he starts tweeting: Ex-Obama campaign advisor

Former senior adviser to the Obama presidential campaign Patti Solis Doyle on Wednesday took a dim view of President Donald Trump's approval ratings after his State of the Union address, telling CNN the president would be unable to maintain any sense of national unity for very long.

Host Jim Sciutto noted that the speech was well-received, with as many as 75% of independent voters approving, and asked if Doyle was concerned about the 2020 election.

"I think one speech does not make President Trump a unifier," she replied, pointing to nearly four years of his "very divisive rhetoric."

"One speech does not make him conciliatory or a unifier in any way, shape, or form," Doyle added, acknowledging Trump had "little bit of a bump" in his approval rating.

"But it will wane almost immediately after his first tweet," she continued, noting that even before the address, Trump had lobbed insults at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and deceased Arizona Republican Senator John McCain. "I don't really put a lot of stock in these numbers right now."
