An 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia triggered tsunami alerts across the Pacific Ocean and the U.S. West Coast.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the earthquake happened 85 miles off the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula at a depth of nearly 12 miles.
Tsunami warnings were issued for Alaska's Aleutian Islands and Hawaii. A tsunami watch was issued for the West Coast, including southern Alaska, California, Washington and Oregon, including Los Angeles Harbor.
Countries across the Pacific Ocean, including Japan and Guam, have also issued tsunami warnings.
"The danger can continue for many hours after the initial wave as subsequent waves arrive. Tsunami heights cannot be predicted and the first wave may not be the largest," The National Weather Service said in an alert.
